An aggregate of discrete parts has deceivingly maintained the formal and spatial edges of those parts. These edges are visible, but whether they are those of the original is unclear. The exterior facade in no way hints the engagement, or disengagement, of the mixed-use interior. Public-oriented programs of the performing arts are contained within as the innermost clusters, while more private housing units line the outer edges of the building. The result is almost a reversal of typical allocations of private and public programs. The striations in the concrete envelope are intentionally orientational to further blur the boundaries among parts, but still create variegated textures within the whole.
